Mad Professor at Life Festival 2010
MAD PROFESSOR
Mad Professor, the true pioneer in the art of dub, over the past 30 years inspired the development of a large portion of the electronic music, we know and love today.
A disciple of Lee “Scratch” Perry, Mad Professor was one of the leading producers in dub reggae’s second generation. He is a prolific producer of nearly 200 albums and has collaborated with reggae artists such as Sly and Robbie, Pato Banton, and Jah Shaka, not to mention some very well known artists from the electronic genre, such as Sade, Massive Attack, and The Orb. Having earned the name ‘Mad Professor’ at school, for his skills and enthusiasm for technology, Neil Fraser has created a league of his own in his reliance on synthesized sounds; religiously incorporating bleeps and whirs before blending them with live instruments, such as guitar, bass, and keyboards.
This experimentation caught the attention of electronic artists outside the reggae genre and led to Mad Professors unforgettable work with Massive Attack on their second album ‘Protection’.
To this day, Mad Professor continues to create captivating soundtracks consisting of soothing, low-end ambient music that’s just perfect for stimulating the inner soul.Mad Professor has worked for various major labels such as: Sony Music, EMI, Arista, Warner Brothers, Capitol Record, Virgin Records and of course, his internationally notorious Ariwa Label well known for its Dub, roots and techno / drum and bass catalogue.
Into its fifth year anniversary, this year Life Festival is proud to welcome Mad Professor onto the stage, where he will ignite the love, respect and union, reggae and dub step is notorious for worldwide.
We thoroughly look forward to be working with one of the worlds most legendary and influential kings of dub.
